DC I’m happy for Alan Scott but the guy is a little marketed character who lives in a different universe. Literally. So I’ll believe you’ve grown up when you say you’ve made a prominent character gay, and that character turns out to be someone that people who don’t read comics…
Ok, but think about DC’s backlash at the large percentage of people who don’t want to see their favorite characters messed with. How would everyone react if suddenly Northstar or Wiccan from Marvel was turned straight? Iconic characters such as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are more than comic characters: they are trademarks. DC makes more money from the licensing of these characters. So say a kid loves Batman, goes to a comic store, picks up a comic and sees Batman and Superman kissing. That kid will be seriously confused and unfortunately, the parent will be angered. The sales for DC would drop so quickly might as well say bye-bye to the whole company.
DC’s main point was to draw in new readers with the reboot (even though its made some loyal fans very angered) and by turning an ICONIC super hero that many fans recognize gay it draws in the homosexual crowd even more. You have to take these things step by step, this is very new to most people and it’ll take some adjusting. People should be grateful to DC for taking the huge risk.
side note: only down side, Obsidian, Alan Scott’s son, was also gay but is now written out of continuity, so in a way, he was sacrificed for a bigger goal.

So, I’m not really happy with this. Captain Marvel should be a happy joyous being who brings hope to people, not some troubled dark hero. Not all heroes have to be dark to be good. It works for Batman but doing it to heroes like Flash and Superman, it just ruins their image.
I would have gone with a blinding shining light with Captain Marvel, as a shining beacon for the people. Not a misunderstood hero…

Zatanna Appreciation:
One of the many unknown superheroes, the character of Zatanna is incredibly creative. I don’t know much about her except the few common things that she is the daughter of Magicians, specifically her father Zatara, she can cast spells by saying words backwards and that she is one of the most powerful members of the Justice League. I think it’s really awesome her spells are cast by backwards phrases, its so simple an idea yet it is so very creative. Also, since she needs to speak the words to cast spells, she often is taken out by enemies by being muted by a rag or momentarily losing the ability to speak. She is a carries a huge importance in the JLA, being the one who wipes Doctor Light’s memories and changing his personality. Her relationship with Batman and Catwoman is also very fun to see, especially when she has her hobby of being a street performer.
I remember seeing her as a love interest in the Batman Animated Series and recently introduced in the Young Justice cartoon. Although her early costumes derive more from a gypsy or wizard look (which are eh…), her magician costume is iconic and not to mention, ironic since usually real magic is associated with wizards or witches and tricks with magicians, but here she changes it up and rocks an awesome tuxedo.
With the reboot (and her new costume — nice, but I still miss the tuxedo), hopefully Zatanna will get more of the notice her character deserves. She is a strong female character with a lot of potential
Looked pretty good so, hey, I’ll give it a shot. And by give it a shot I mean read about it online because there isn’t a comic shop around here. Maybe when the graphic novel comes out eventually…?
Mainly because I heard better things coming from the Batman universe (cept that Joker’s face gets cut off or something? Maybe I need to look into that a little more). Sadly, I will always be a Batman fan loyalist so when they touched on some things that peeved me, I got defensive. But I read a small interview saying that there will be an issue of batman with all the Robins, except Jason, in tuxedos with Bruce. If Tim is there then I will stop bitching. Except that they reduced Superboy’s personality to that of the Young Justice cartoon’s. But I’ll get over that eventually. Fingers crossed.
I do apologize for tripping balls about the reboot Teen Titans. The post was met with some criticism, but I was merely trying to point out some… things that bugged me about it. Someone was nice enough to inform me a little better about the current changes going on (I don’t stay up to date THAT much, hence the blog name…). I supposse I’m nearly biased about certain changes to my favorite characters and just wanted to bring them to attention. However, I wouldn’t call it too much of an over reaction as I see people freaking out over Nightwing’s lack of blue finger stripes on tumblr… So yeah.
