angergirl:

DC I’m happy for Alan Scott but the guy is a little marketed character who lives in a different universe. Literally. So I’ll believe you’ve grown up when you say you’ve made a prominent character gay, and that character turns out to be someone that people who don’t read comics…

Ok, but think about DC’s backlash at the large percentage of people who don’t want to see their favorite characters messed with. How would everyone react if suddenly Northstar or Wiccan from Marvel was turned straight? Iconic characters such as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are more than comic characters: they are trademarks. DC makes more money from the licensing of these characters. So say a kid loves Batman, goes to a comic store, picks up a comic and sees Batman and Superman kissing. That kid will be seriously confused and unfortunately, the parent will be angered. The sales for DC would drop so quickly might as well say bye-bye to the whole company.

DC’s main point was to draw in new readers with the reboot (even though its made some loyal fans very angered) and by turning an ICONIC super hero that many fans recognize gay it draws in the homosexual crowd even more. You have to take these things step by step, this is very new to most people and it’ll take some adjusting. People should be grateful to DC for taking the huge risk.

side note: only down side, Obsidian, Alan Scott’s son, was also gay but is now written out of continuity, so in a way, he was sacrificed for a bigger goal.
